Klein Collins made a successful playoff debut as it won the Tiger tussle 2-1 over Conroe in an exciting bi-district playoff game at home.
In a fast-paced, high-energy contest, the two teams played a hard-fought game. While neither side scored in the first half, both teams created some good opportunities that just missed their target.
In the second half, Collins got on the board first in the second half as Trevor Johnson was able to knock the ball past the Conroe keeper. Conroe would equalize as Giovanni Matasche knocked home a cross on the back post.
Collins would get the winning goal as Victor Garcia won the ball in the midfield and then sent a perfect through ball to Malcolm Johnson whose shot went off the post. Rudy Howard then knocked in the rebound.
Klein Collins used a Trevor Johnson first-half goal and a strong defensive effort to advance to the regional tournament with a 1-0 victory over Belton at Brenham's Rankin Field.
Johnson got the game's lone goal about 18 minutes into the game as his free kick from the right side was deflected into the net. Collins would have some other chances on goal, including a nice breakaway opportunity that Rudy Howard sent wide in the second half.
Collins' defense, which was led by Trey Benton, Eddie Howen, Diego Jimenez, Chris McMillan, and Kenny Cosgrove, frustrated the Belton attack. Tiger keeper Leeland Karpf also made several key plays to deny Belton threats.
