The Klein Bearkats played spoiler to Klein Collins' "Gold Rush Night" as the Bearkats blanked the Tigers 3-0 in the District 16-5A opener for both teams.

Klein dominated the first half as the Tigers struggled to gain any possession. The Bearkats kept the pressure on Collins by winning 50/50 balls and pushing forward in the attack. Klein generated numerous set pieces and restarts, but could only muster one goal against the Tiger defense as JP Blanchard rebounded home a miss to give the Kats a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Tigers withstood Klein's early onslaught and then began to gain their composure and gain possession. With the settled play, Collins began to generate some opportunities. The Tigers had a golden chance as Klein GK Tyler Deric came out and bobbled a through ball that Juan Lozano was able to pounce on and send to Cash Davis at the near post. However, Davis' shot attempt at the empty net went high over the crossbar.

The Bearkats battled back and were able to break the Tigers' back as Nathan Pershke won a 50/50 ball in midfield and sent a great ball to All-American Chad Bauman who was able to slot home the shot past Collins keeper Wes Vallentine. A few minutes later, Kirk Madsen put the game away with the final tally of the night.

Collins finally got on the board in the second half as Johnson scored on a beautiful, free kick shot. The goal would eventually stand as the winning goal, thanks to the goalposts and some good goal keeping. Westfield had several chances in the second half bounce off the post as they turned up the pressure in search for an equalizer. That pressure resulted in a penalty kick being awarded to the Mustangs with just 3 seconds left in the game. However, Karpf was up to the challenge for the Tigers as he stopped the PK to preserve the road victory.
